5/25/14

 Hello everyone!
Today and a smidge of yesterday I worked on a new character. I made the "normal" portrait and made the front of her sprite. Her sprite can now walk forward, just not any other direction yet. I think I'm getting a little better at making sprites, not a ton but a little, which is nice.

I also made a concept of another character. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. She'll need an outfit do-over I think, that dress idea is way too plain. Still, I think she's cute. I'm going to try some different outfits and hairstyles before I finalize a design for her.

More next week, if I'm not swamped with homework!

5/18/14

Hello again, everyone!
I've been very busy lately but I have still been able to make a bit of time to work on Taradiddle. Below you can see some of what I've been doing today. I'm working on portraits and concepts of more characters. I'm hoping to finish the first portrait pictured below next week. Still- I got quite a bit done. I mapped out some areas, then worked on portraits.

5/4/14

Today I began work on interior tiles to take a break from pulling my hair out over outdoor plants and trees. I also worked on the sprite of Alice, the sprite with the red shirt, and mapped her home. Keep in mind the walls, floor, and rugs will be replaced and also keep in mind that these tiles are WIP and none of it is fully colored and some is just lines, no color at all. Anywho, that's what I spent my time today doing.

3-16-14

Hello,
Today I spent a lot more time than I expected working on Taradiddle. I got small and large shop placement completed. Keep in mind that the maps look empty right now as I haven't begun the majority of the mapping. I just now where each building can be placed and I have roads placed. The player will, eventually, have the option to place all sized shops and villager's homes in various places throughout the valley. The player will also be able to rearrange whenever they want to, for a price. Right now only small and large shops can be placed and rearranged. Next week I plan to get medium shops done and if time allows, small homes.

New store. The bread loaf is the placeholder cursor right now.

I also figured out the mini-game that will be located at the grocery store. It's not complete yet but I have the basic framework done. I have to add a background image, replace placeholding art, and add in more merchandise.
The mini-game is played using the number keys. You get one minute to get as many points as you can. Items appear on the screen and float across, allowing time to type in the numbers. It starts out easy and then gets harder as the player collects more and more points. When the player gets all the numbers typed in they get a point but if they don't make it in time the player gets a point taken away. Easy has three numbers and the item bounces back to the start with each correct number, making it quite easy. Medium does the same bouncing but there are a lot more numbers to enter in. After I test more I may end up making medium not bounce. Hard has no bouncing, less time to enter in numbers, and the same amount of numbers as medium. At the end of the game the player is paid for their work according to how well they did. It still looks rough but I'm happy with the basics and can't wait to have time to refine it some more.

Anyway, I'm taking a break now.

The Bakery

All information/images are not finalized and are subject to changes.

~ Welcome ~
This bakery is the only one in the valley. A recent addition you're sure to find plenty of treats and sweets behind that door. You might also find a little more than you had anticipated. This shop is always filled with nice smells and the sound of a gently ticking clock.

A young woman is the owner of this establishment. She is quiet and not many people know much about her. All that you know for sure is she doesn't speak much and brought a bow and quiver of arrows with her when she moved in. The treats she makes are sweet and just hit the spot if your looking for something to nibble on or if you want to buy a gift for that special someone. Don't forget to speak with Kiera's special companion before you leave, he can give you tips and recipes if you can just convince him you are serious about becoming a chef.

Weekly Update #4

Sorry I didn't post this yesterday. I thought I had pushed publish!

This week I have finalized the features that will be included in Taradiddle and have continued planning. The above is a quick picture I did while working on the backstory of a character that you will be able to meet in Taradiddle. Starting next week I will post a "spotlight" where I will talk about a specific character, shop, or location that will be in Taradiddle! Look forward to it!
